Truth Serum

The Pope admitted, “We made the whole Jesus thing up.
On his visit to the Vatican the Dalai Lama said the same
about Buddha. We sure got a kick out of that one.”
The same day my wife confessed,
“Although I find sex with you repulsive,
it sure beats working full time.”

It must have been something in the water.
Doctors ridiculed their patients’ vaginal itching.
The President called the American public,
“a bunch of whining self-indulgent morons.”

Later, I waited at the curb for a gap
in the torrent of speeding distracted metal,
when a woman, I didn’t even know,
brought her green Land Rover to a halt for me to cross.
I found a brown paper bag of my neighbor’s
heirloom tomatoes on my doorstep.
It was a good day.

Poet's statement: I have a Ph.D. in physics, have practiced Buddhism for over twenty years, and have published over a hundred poems in small press journals such as Pearl, Pudding, Slipstream, American Tanka, Anthology Magazine, The Blind Man’s Rainbow, Edgz, The Kaleidoscope Review, The Magee Park Anthology, The New Verse News, Poesia, Sacred Journey, San Diego Writer’s Monthly, Tidepools, Zillah, and others. My chapbooks have won honorable mentions twice in the San Diego Book Awards.
