Starry Days

Once in a while, instead of passing right
by my table covered with drawing paper & pencils
my father would stop & grab a writing
utensil & paper & draw
what he thought were artistic images
of fighter planes, battleships
parachutes falling from the sky
submarines, nosing up from choppy waters
sometimes a Tommy gun with rat-a-tat tat
written next to it or a bridge with its many cables
when he was done he'd stand up & fart loudly
after he left the room I'd sketch
a lonesome house in the middle of an empty field
except for one ancient tree arching over the roof's peak
and although it was daytime in my picture
I'd fill the sky with lots of tiny silver Asterisks

I have one book of published poems called Ashtrays and Bulls (2003 1st place winner of Nerve Cowboy's chapbook contest). I have published a lot of poems in journals and magazines: Big City Lit, Blowback, Chiron Review, Devil Blossoms, Evolution, Gnome, Long Island Quarterly, Lunatic Chameleon, Nerve Cowboy, Pearl, Poetrybay, Polarity, Sho, Soul Fountain, Stickman Review, The Idiot, Zygote in my Coffee. In 2002 I was part of a spoken word/music CD Northport Celebrates Jack (a Kerouac tribute) featuring world famous musician David Amram. I was also a student of Allen Ginsberg's.
