On Debunking Modern Art and the Pursuit of Culture:
an Imaginary Rant

by Alex Nodopaka

Note from the editor:

This issue, I have selected five "must reads" out of the outstanding poems and pieces of flash fiction we have published. Perhaps this need to share my opinion comes from my inability to read all of the submissions this issue. For what it's worth, I would recommend these because to me, they most tightly embrace the spirit of Mannequin Envy. Poetry: Antonia Clark, Brad Johnson, Dale McLain, Roger Pfingston, and flash fiction: Richard Rippon

Too much time has passed since we have seen Alex Nodopaka's artwork on Mannequin Envy. I decided to publish his "imaginary rant" as well as feature his new photographic artwork on our pages. Enjoy!

One of the reasons I began Mannequin Envy was to provide a beautiful space for artists and writers to present their work without ugly ads that crowd out our work. Consider helping us out by purchasing the anthology. for a reduced price of $9.00.

Mannequin Envy is published quarterly in memory of artistic genius and wonderful human: Douglas Gamrath

being as small

mirror will be washed
soon as need to see
real
what is here and behind
in front eventually

a mirror is time travel
not space
best silvered glass, water too
sky below, self above
all as bottomless, next to each other
(viewing hint: tip head slightly)

swimming in the untouchable
long as wide pool
deep as shallow heaven
