bio

I am a South African artist living in Lisbon.I am not cursed, like I once believe, by my obsession to create, but am now convinced that it is a blessing. I am a strange and dark and an unorthodox phenomenon. I refuse to see this as negative, it is something positive.

Artist's Statement :

My work is a direct reflection of what I see. I see everything. I look at a stranger on the subway and I see how lonely he is and how he is wondering what the lady sitting across him is wearing as underwear. I look at the girl working at McDonalds, wearing her hat as low as possible, and I know how she wants to scream her head off and spit in the burgers. Sometimes I see so much in people, I blush, as if I am invading on their secrets without wanting to, or as if I opened a door without knocking. It is this vision I want to share with the world. If I can somehow portray how beautiful human flaws are I would convey a message of truth. We are all bruised apples that didn´t fall far from the tree. There is a lot of beauty in those specific parts in the human psyche that society wants us to hide. We are animals who are not allowed to give in to our instincts due to the civilized stigma attached to walking on two legs. My art wants to unveil humans, leaf by leaf, until we stand naked again.
