Bill Winter
~ fall 2006~
flash fiction: Lab Exercise
Bill Winter was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and has lived
there, with the exception of one startlingly unpleasant year in Los
Angeles, all his life. Besides Mannequin Envy, his work has appeared in
Artistry of Life, Barking Dogs, and Word Riot. He occasionally plays a
black Stratocaster guitar, loudly and badly.
Lab Exercise
Molly worked part time as a lab assistant for the biology department
and we'd sneak back to the storage area among all the specimen jars and
chemicals and shit. I remember the rabbits-live rabbits, in cages. They
were for some nursing class, I think.
One of them spent all its time sitting in its water dish. I wondered why and thought can rabbits be insane?
One day Molly said they'd found the poor thing had ulcers on its feet. So they sacrificed him first.
Then she said, "I'm moving to Germany."
