Background 
Dominic was born in England in 1959 and started his career as a press
photographer at the age of sixteen working for local and national
newspapers.
Finding himself constrained by the technical limitations of
photojournalism he returned to college in 1982 to study commercial and
advertising photography and developed an interest in multiple exposure
techniques using large format cameras.
After a brief spell assisting advertising photographers in London he opened his own studio in 1986.
Style
Monochrome compositions comprising the human form (or parts thereof),
interiors (ecclesiastical and otherwise) and occasional landscapes,
acknowledging the writings of Franz Kafka, Philip Larkin and Friedrich
Nietzsche with obeisance due to M.C. Escher, Salvador Dali and Rene
Magritte; being attempts to convey anger, heartache, confusion and
hatred and their antidotes: obsession and desire - the highest forms of
which, despite the prison of our existence, somehow manage to prove
"our almost-instinct almost true: What will survive of us is love."
Exhibitions & Awards
Dominic's work is exhibited internationally. In 2002 he showed at the
XII Encuentros Abiertos de Fotografia in Buenos Aires for three months
and also at the Benham Gallery in Seattle with Jerry Uelsmann. In the
same year he had his first London show and also exhibited at the
Schneider Gallery in Chicago. In 2003 he had his first US solo show at
the Carmel Center for Photographic Art and exhibited at the Honolulu
Academy and FotoFest in Houston in 2004. He was awarded the Ultimate
Eye Foundation grant in 2002 and again in 2006 and his advertising work
has also won recognition at the International Digital Exhibition Awards
(London) in 1999 & 2000. In 2003 he won the 'Special Photographer'
category in the first International Photography Awards (Photography's
Oscars) held at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. In 2005 he was
awarded first prize in The Photo Review's Annual Competition, a Gold
Award by America's Black and White Magazine for 'The cunning of
unreason', and was the winner of Artrom Gallery's International Digital
competition in Rome and Los Angeles Center for Digital Art's
International juried competition.
Publications
Include Photo Art International, Digital Photo Art, Creative
Photography, The Photographer, Image, Lenswork (USA), The British
Journal of Photography, Black and White Magazine (USA), FotoRomania and
Art Review. He has recently been included in 'A Celebration of Light',
a book published to coincide with an exhibition at The Honolulu Academy
of Arts alongside many of the Masters of Photography.
Black and White Magazine called him a "A master of digital
manipulation" and the British Journal of Photography, reviewing a
London exhibition described the work as "masterpieces" urging their
readers to go and "see the show and marvel at the work."
Prints
Hand-toned silver gelatin archival prints made from 4" x 5" negatives;
a process requiring two development baths and a controlled bleaching
which selectively prepares the shadows, mid-tones and highlights for
the toning agent. This latter process not only tones the print but
enhances its archival qualities by adding thio-carbomide permanence to
the remaining silver.
Prints are on 20" x 24" paper in a limited edition of eight and 16" x 20" paper in an edition of sixteen.
