Editor's Note:
I am very
excited to present this special issue of Mannequin Envy. Our
regular submissions were postponed in order to present the work of
individuals who are driven to create, to capture, to convey their
perceptions in both the visual and poetic media. Some of the men and
women might be considered poets who dabble in the visual arts, some
might be
called artists who write poetry.
Some readily admit that one or the other medium is their strength, but
that does not stop them from creating as they are called to create. I
was inspired to produce this issue by two of our featured artists,
Tantra Bensko and Scott Odom, who brought to my attention the deep
respect and admiration I hold for individuals who can move me with
their visual arts and poetry.
I
hope you enjoy the featured art as well as the artist's statements that
describe the relationship between poetic and visual arts in their
creative lives. This issue is as much about the artist and the process
of creative expression as it is about the works we present.
Not all of
the poetry or art presented is typical of the work we generally include
in our regular issue.
Thank you for your suport and to the artists and poets who allow us to
showcase their work here at Mannequin Envy.
Yours,
Jennifer VanBuren |
